Customization - 3D Prints
Have an idea, a reference image, or a ready-to-print 3D file?
Aka Miniverse offers small-batch FDM 3D printing, custom modifications, and engineering CAD modeling. Each project is reviewed individually to determine whether it can be printed successfully, which material is appropriate, how the model should be oriented, and whether supports, brims, or other print adjustments are needed.
Every order receives a personalized quote before work begins.
Custom 3D printing starts at $20.

3. Create a New Model and Print It
Have an idea but no printable 3D model?
I can create a model from your measurements, sketches, reference photos, or functional requirements and then produce the finished FDM print.
My strongest modeling area is engineering CAD and dimension-driven design. I can create engineering-style CAD models and technical drawings for functional objects such as:
- Brackets
- Adapters
- Holders
- Mounts
- Organizers
- Enclosures
- Spacers
- Fixtures
- Display components
- Replacement parts
- Connecting pieces
- Simple mechanical components
- Custom parts designed to fit another object
For the best result, please provide accurate measurements, photographs, sketches, and information about how the finished part will be used.

Digital Sculpting Requests
I am currently continuing to develop my digital-sculpting skills.
At this stage, I may accept simple stylized, decorative, or low-complexity sculpting projects on a limited, case-by-case basis. Highly detailed characters, realistic creatures, complex anatomy, or advanced organic sculpting may be outside my current service scope.
Before accepting a sculpting project, I will review the references and explain what level of detail I can realistically provide.
Digital-sculpting projects are quoted individually based on:
- Design complexity
- Required level of detail
- Number of views or references provided
- Expected revisions
- Intended print size
- Whether the model must connect to another object
- Whether the design needs to function mechanically
I will be transparent if a requested model is beyond my current sculpting ability.

Materials Available
PLA
PLA is recommended for most decorative models, displays, organizers, prototypes, and indoor-use objects.
PLA offers:
- Good surface quality
- Wide color availability
- Sharp printed details
- Reliable printing
- Affordable production
PLA may not be appropriate for objects exposed to high temperatures, direct sunlight for extended periods, or heavy mechanical stress.
PETG
PETG is suitable for parts that need more flexibility, impact resistance, or moisture resistance than standard PLA.
PETG may be recommended for:
- Functional components
- Containers and organizers
- Parts exposed to occasional moisture
- Clips or parts that need moderate flexibility
- More durable prototypes
PETG may have more visible stringing or surface variation than PLA.
TPU
TPU is a flexible material suitable for certain soft, bendable, or impact-resistant parts.
TPU projects are reviewed carefully because print speed, wall thickness, geometry, and flexibility requirements can significantly affect the result.
Specialty Filaments
Specialty materials may include:
- Silk PLA
- Gradient filament
- Wood-filled filament
- Marble-effect filament
- Glow or UV-reactive filament
- Matte filament
- Multicolor filament
Specialty materials are quoted separately based on availability, material cost, print difficulty, and the amount needed for the project.
How the Process Works
Step 1: Submit Your Request
Send the file, reference images, sketches, measurements, and a short explanation of what you need.
Step 2: Project Review
I will review the request for printability, modeling requirements, material selection, size, supports, strength, and production risk.
A quick preliminary feasibility review is free.
Step 3: Receive Your Quote
You will receive a quote explaining:
- Selected service
- Material and color
- Model dimensions
- Estimated print time
- Estimated material usage
- Design or preparation charges
- Printing charges
- Additional finishing
- Shipping
- Expected production schedule
Quotes are normally valid for seven days.
Step 4: Approve and Pay
Custom work must be approved and paid before printing begins.
Projects requiring substantial modeling work may require a deposit before model development begins. The remaining balance must be paid before final production or delivery.
Step 5: Modeling and Print Preparation
Depending on the selected service, I will modify the design, create the CAD model, repair the supplied file, or prepare the model for printing.
Step 6: Production and Inspection
The model will be printed, removed from the build plate, cleaned, and visually inspected.
Step 7: Delivery
The finished order will be packaged for pickup or shipment.
What to Include With Your Request
Providing complete information helps create a more accurate quote.
Please include:
- Your 3D model, reference image, or sketch
- Desired finished dimensions
- Intended use
- Quantity
- Preferred material
- Preferred color
- Required strength or flexibility
- Important measurements
- Parts that must fit together
- Desired surface quality
- Deadline
- Shipping destination
For replacement parts or fitted components, provide measurements using calipers whenever possible.
Photographs should include a ruler or another known-size object for scale. Multiple views are strongly recommended.
File Preparation and Repair
Some customer-supplied files may require additional work before they can be printed.
Common file problems include:
- Open or non-manifold geometry
- Missing surfaces
- Reversed faces
- Extremely thin walls
- Unsupported details
- Floating model sections
- Incorrect scale
- Intersecting geometry
- Features smaller than the printer can reliably reproduce
- Parts that cannot be assembled as designed
Basic slicing adjustments are covered by the standard setup fee.
Geometry repair, model splitting, dimension changes, hole adjustments, clearance changes, and other CAD modifications are billed at the modeling rate.
No additional repair work will be performed without customer approval.
Prototypes, Fit, and Functional Parts
For objects that must fit another component, the first print should usually be treated as a prototype.
FDM printing, customer measurements, material shrinkage, part orientation, and printer tolerances can affect the final fit.
A successful print does not automatically guarantee that a customer-designed part will perform correctly in its intended application.
When fit or mechanical performance is important:
- A test piece may be recommended
- Critical dimensions should be identified
- Multiple prototypes may be required
- Revised prints are priced separately unless the problem resulted from my production error
Engineering CAD service means that I can create dimension-based models and technical designs. It does not include professional engineering certification, structural approval, or safety certification.
Surface Finish and FDM Expectations
FDM-printed objects naturally have visible layer lines.
Depending on the geometry and orientation, the finished print may also have:
- Support contact marks
- Small seams
- Minor stringing
- Slight color variation
- A different texture on the bottom surface
- Small dimensional variation
- Less detail on downward-facing surfaces
I will select an orientation that balances appearance, print reliability, material usage, and strength. When several orientations are possible, I may ask which surfaces are most important to you.
Basic support removal is included when the supports are easy to remove. Extensive cleanup, sanding, assembly, or finishing is charged separately.
Reprints and Customer-Provided Designs
A replacement print may be provided without an additional production charge when:
- The wrong material or color was used
- The printer malfunctioned
- The approved settings were not followed
- The part was damaged because of inadequate packaging
- The delivered print materially differs from the approved production specifications because of my error
A new order or additional charge may be required when:
- The customer’s measurements were incorrect
- The supplied model was designed incorrectly
- The print matches the file but does not fit its intended application
- The customer changes the design after approval
- The customer requests a different size, material, orientation, or finish
- Normal FDM layer lines or disclosed support marks are considered undesirable
- The customer selected a material that was not recommended
- Another prototype is needed to improve fit or performance
Design Rights and Accepted Projects
Customers must own the submitted file or have permission to reproduce it.
Please do not submit stolen models, unauthorized commercial files, or designs that you do not have permission to manufacture.
Aka Miniverse may decline projects involving:
- Unauthorized copyrighted designs
- Illegal items
- Weapons or weapon components
- Medical-use parts
- Food-contact applications
- Life-safety applications
- High-temperature applications beyond the available material
- Parts requiring formal engineering certification
- Projects outside the printer’s size or material capabilities
Submitting a file does not transfer ownership of that file to Aka Miniverse. Customer files will be used only as necessary to review, prepare, and produce the requested order.
For new models created by Aka Miniverse, file ownership, commercial-use rights, exclusivity, and delivery of the digital source file must be agreed upon separately before modeling begins.
Purchasing a physical print does not automatically include the editable CAD file or commercial reproduction rights.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the initial file review free?
A brief preliminary feasibility review is free. This determines whether the project appears printable and whether additional modeling or repair may be needed.
The standard setup fee is included in the final production quote once you decide to proceed.
Can you repair my model?
Minor slicing adjustments may be included in the standard setup. Geometry repair, dimension changes, model splitting, clearance adjustments, or other design work is billed separately.
Can you change the size of my model?
Yes, provided the model remains printable and the new size does not make important details or walls too small.
Can you guarantee that a replacement part will fit?
Exact fit cannot be guaranteed from photographs alone. Accurate measurements and a prototype are strongly recommended.
Can you create a model from only one picture?
Simple models may be possible, but multiple views and measurements produce much better results. Complex objects may require sketches, additional photographs, or access to the object being matched.
Do you provide the digital model file?
Digital-file delivery is not automatically included with a physical print. File delivery, ownership, editable CAD files, and commercial-use rights must be discussed before the modeling project begins.
Can you print multiple copies?
Yes. Batch orders are quoted using the total printing time, material usage, preparation work, and quantity. Printing multiple copies may reduce the setup cost per item.
Can you print very large models?
Models larger than the available print area may need to be divided into multiple pieces. Model splitting, connectors, alignment features, assembly, and additional printing time may increase the price.
How quickly will my order be completed?
Production time depends on modeling requirements, print duration, material availability, current order volume, and whether prototypes are required. An estimated schedule will be included with the quote.
